2012- Getting Started

After a long weather imposed break, we’ll be making a start on work for 2012. Despite the lack of gardening activity we’ve made good progress towards getting constituted with sufficient volunteers having at last made themselves known to allow us to meet the legal requirments for constitution.

As ever we’re always on the look out for new volunteers to help with gardening, litter picking, maintaining the website or committee/fundraising work. So please get in touch if you feel you have something to offer.

Our first dig of 2012 will be on Saturday 4th Feb at Townhead in Glasgow. There has been considerable storm damage at the site with a few trees being lost so any help at all you can offer would be appreciated. We’ll be meeting at Townhead outside St Mungos Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson St at 11:30am and expect to be there for about two hours.

If you’ve a distance to travel and haven’t been before you can get any of the following buses to Stirling Rd which will drop you right at the site.  We’re just behind the bus stop.  If you’re not sure where you’re going just ask the driver to let you off at the last stop on Stirling Rd at the motorway.

Help Wanted.

We next meet up on Saturday 25th June at our Townhead site. There’s lots to do -weeding, sowing, litter removal and general tidying up so we’d love to have you along if you fancy helping out. We have lots in flower just now with plenty of bees and insects coming to see us, so the site is well worth a look.

We meet at 11:30am on the lane that connects Stirling Rd and Parson Street just outside St Mungos Primary School in Townhead.

You don’t need to bring anything though I’d recommend gloves as a minimum. If you have a trowel or fork these come in handy for planting and are worth bringing along. If you have any plants or seeds to spare feel free to bring them along but it isn’t essential.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out today and I hope to see you all next week.

June 2011

Plenty to do this month, particularly after the recent gales so any help always appreciated. We next meet on Saturday 4th June and Saturday 18th June at our Townhead site, at 11:30am. If you’d like to come along and help out you’d be more than welcome. Just bring a pair of gardening gloves and a small trowel or fork if you plan to do any planting. Our Townhead site is opposite the Royal Infirmary, just outside St Mungos Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson Street.

Townhead March 12th 2011-CANCELLED

Owing to the weather this morning’s planned dig will not be going ahead.

We’ll next be meeting on 12th March 2011 at our Townhead site to carry on tidying up the winter debris, planting and litter picking.

If you’d like to help out, bring yourself a pair of gloves and a small trowel or fork if you intend to be doing any planting.

We meet outside the side entrance of St Mungo’s Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd and Parson Street. As ever everyone is welcome to come along.

Townhead Update

I spent a very enjoyable few hours up at Townhead today, every week new shoots are appearing and more spring bulbs are blooming. We currently have a very nice display of hellebores and primroses on the site, so it’s well worth talking a stroll by if you’re in the area.

We continue to get great feedback from the public for all our hard work on the site. Today I was awarded a banana by a passer by which provided a welcome snack and excuse to pause for a break.

All in all I managed to get a fair bit done and have added teasel, hardy geraniums, quaking grass, yellow loosestrife, primula, poached eggs and sweet rocket to the beds for what fingers crossed should be a colourful display come summer. Removing the debris of autumn and winter continues and there is still loads to do so any help, even just a quick half hour is welcome.

We next meet as a group on the 26th Feb and it would be great to see a few old and new faces come along.

Last February Dig

We meet for the last dig of February at 11:30am on Saturday 26th Feb at the side entrance of St Mungos Primary, Townhead on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson St. As well as admiring all the early bulbs which are just coming into bloom, we’ll be continuing work on the site in preparation for the arrival of spring. If you haven’t been up in a while it’s well worth a look as there are over thirteen thousand spring and summer bulbs of various kinds set to bloom over the coming months.

As ever bring yourself, a small fork or trowel, a pair of gardening gloves and any plants you’d like to add to what will hopefully be a colourful display. If you haven’t been along to the site before or you have any questions, please get in touch via email.

Hayes Garden World

The good people at Hayes Garden World have very kindly made a donation to our plant fund. Hayes Garden World is a huge garden centre in Ambleside selling everything you can think of related to gardening including garden furniture, garden benches, barbeques, chimineas, bird feeders, plants and lots more including all the gardening tools you’ll need in your guerrilla gardening kit.

Once again a massive thanks to Hayes for their kind donation.

Tidy Up & Planting

The next dig will be on February 12th at 11:30am at Townhead. We’ll be concentrating on tidying up the site by removing litter and leaves. We’ll also be doing a spot of planting, if you’d like to plant something, please bring primroses or hellebores. Other than that, bring yourselves a pair of gardening gloves and a small trowel or fork.

Thanks to all who made it along today, your help and support is very much appreciated. Hope to see you all again soon.
