2012- Getting Started

After a long weather imposed break, we’ll be making a start on work for 2012. Despite the lack of gardening activity we’ve made good progress towards getting constituted with sufficient volunteers having at last made themselves known to allow us to meet the legal requirments for constitution.

As ever we’re always on the look out for new volunteers to help with gardening, litter picking, maintaining the website or committee/fundraising work. So please get in touch if you feel you have something to offer.

Our first dig of 2012 will be on Saturday 4th Feb at Townhead in Glasgow. There has been considerable storm damage at the site with a few trees being lost so any help at all you can offer would be appreciated. We’ll be meeting at Townhead outside St Mungos Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson St at 11:30am and expect to be there for about two hours.

Help Wanted.

We next meet up on Saturday 25th June at our Townhead site. There’s lots to do -weeding, sowing, litter removal and general tidying up so we’d love to have you along if you fancy helping out. We have lots in flower just now with plenty of bees and insects coming to see us, so the site is well worth a look.

We meet at 11:30am on the lane that connects Stirling Rd and Parson Street just outside St Mungos Primary School in Townhead.

You don’t need to bring anything though I’d recommend gloves as a minimum. If you have a trowel or fork these come in handy for planting and are worth bringing along. If you have any plants or seeds to spare feel free to bring them along but it isn’t essential.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out today and I hope to see you all next week.

Townhead March 12th 2011-CANCELLED

Owing to the weather this morning’s planned dig will not be going ahead.

We’ll next be meeting on 12th March 2011 at our Townhead site to carry on tidying up the winter debris, planting and litter picking.

If you’d like to help out, bring yourself a pair of gloves and a small trowel or fork if you intend to be doing any planting.

We meet outside the side entrance of St Mungo’s Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd and Parson Street. As ever everyone is welcome to come along.

Last February Dig

We meet for the last dig of February at 11:30am on Saturday 26th Feb at the side entrance of St Mungos Primary, Townhead on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson St. As well as admiring all the early bulbs which are just coming into bloom, we’ll be continuing work on the site in preparation for the arrival of spring. If you haven’t been up in a while it’s well worth a look as there are over thirteen thousand spring and summer bulbs of various kinds set to bloom over the coming months.

As ever bring yourself, a small fork or trowel, a pair of gardening gloves and any plants you’d like to add to what will hopefully be a colourful display. If you haven’t been along to the site before or you have any questions, please get in touch via email.

Tidy Up & Planting

The next dig will be on February 12th at 11:30am at Townhead. We’ll be concentrating on tidying up the site by removing litter and leaves. We’ll also be doing a spot of planting, if you’d like to plant something, please bring primroses or hellebores. Other than that, bring yourselves a pair of gardening gloves and a small trowel or fork.

Thanks to all who made it along today, your help and support is very much appreciated. Hope to see you all again soon.

Cancelled – 4th December dig

Hello, I’ve taken the desicion to cancel this due to the prevailing climatic conditions. I’venot been able to get in touch with the others but I think they would agree. We will rearrange for later.

Apologies for the late notice.

regards,

Michael

Our next dig will be the last of 2010 and there is still masses of work to be done. We really need a good turnout to get the site ready for the new year. If you’ve never been before you’d be very welcome to come along and help out. Our Townhead site is opposite the Royal Infirmary, just outside St Mungos Primary on the lane that connects Stirling Rd to Parson Street more details here. We’ll be meeting at the Townhead site at 11:30am on Saturday 4th December and hope to see you all before the New Year.

All you need to bring are gloves, a trowel or bulb planter and bulbs if you have any you’d like to plant.

Saturday 13th November-Townhead

We next meet on Saturday 13th November at our Townhead site to carry on planting bulbs and tidying the site up for the winter. We had a great display of spring bulbs last year and it would be fantastic to repeat the success next year. Apart from looking pretty spring bulbs are a good early source of food for bumblebees, hoverflies and other beneficial insects so the more bulbs we get in the better. We’ll
be meeting at 11:30am if you’d like to come along. Just bring yourself any bulbs you’d like to donate (optional) a trowel/bulb planter and some gardening gloves.

We have also received a level one award from the Beautiful Scotland ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ scheme. So a big thanks to everyone who has helped out since we started working on the site. We hope to attain a higher level of award next year and the work we put in between now and August 2011 all contributes to that.

Hope to see you all on Saturday

Saturday 30th October

A big thanks to all who came along today. We got quite a bit planted and made some inroads into clearing the weeds and fallen leaves. As ever with gardening, there is still tons to do. With that in mind we next meet up on
Saturday 30th October, 11am at our Townhead site.

We’ll be planting bulbs, if you’d like to bring some we’re after native bluebells, snowdrops, daffodils, crocuses, amemone blanda, snakeshead fritallaries and grape hyacinths. We shall also be continuing to weed and clear leaves from the borders and any help at all you can offer with these tasks would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven’t been to the site before it’s just along from The Lee pub on the lane that connects Stirling Rd and Parsons Street- right outside St Mungos Primary School.
