Townhead Update (22/11/08)

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

A few photos from the last Townhead dig. Lots of leaf litter, but we managed to clear the worst of it from the roses in the south plot. Plenty of planting was done too. Heather, a few rose bushes, some ferns, ornamental grasses and bulbs. A good days work all told.

There will be one last organised visit this year I think, just to get the last of the bulbs in.

Ten we plan for next year…………… ;)

North Kelvinside Meadow

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Hello!

I thought I’d better put up some of the shots from last Saturdays clean-up at the Meadow, if nothing else, they give you an idea of the size of this tract of land.  The Meadow is a large expanse of spare ground, just off Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow.  It used to be a pair of red shale football pitches, and I have to admit there was a mild pang of nostalgia involved for me, as I had played there about twenty years ago for a local Boys Club.  The old floodlight pylons still stand, rusting and broken.

That apart, it’s unrecognisable nowadays, with trees and grass covering the area.  Ideal, as it happens, to be transformed into a little piece of green space in the middle of the city.  More info can be found at the North Kelvinside Meadow website, keep an eye out over the coming weeks for the next stage in the process of turning the land into something pleasant and productive, Douglas and co will need all the help they can get.
