The Scottish Green list & Thursday 27th May

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Hello All,

Two pieces of news, first up we were both surprised and delighted to be placed first in the 2010 Green List
especially as the other nominees were so impressive. Read more about our unexpected triumph here. Oh and if
it was you who nominated us, can you make yourself know so that we can buy you a pint.
The next piece of news concerns the site at Townhead. Unfortunately the weeds are rapidly gaining the upper hand.
To combat this we will be meeting up on Thursday 27th May at 6:30pm for a quick weed and water of the site.
Everyone is welcome, just bring yourselves, gloves and some water. The dig shouldn’t take longer than an hour and the
more who come along the quicker we’ll get the site looking it’s best.
Hope to see you all on Thursday.

The Scottish Green List : Seedbom & Glasgow Guerrilla Gardeners

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Unknown to us, Seedbom & Glasgow Guerrialla Gardeners were entered into a Scotland wide competition:

The Scottish Sustainable Development Forum wanted to celebrate the people making Scotland more sustainable. They invited nominations for inspirational individuals from all parts of Scottish Society. People working in all areas from housing, health, and education to energy, transport and waste management have been nominated and the juding panel considered:

  • What has changed as a result of the nominee’s actions?
  • Is there a lasting legacy?
  • How could others learn from the efforts?

Not only did we reach the top 5, it was decided buy the judging panel and The Scotsman to give us First place. Yes First Place. We were up against tough competition, projects that have been running for a number of years. I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet as to the impact of this but more than ever we are wanting to carry on our work in and around Glasgow.

A big Thank You to whomever entered our names into the competition and also a ‘shout out’ to the others who were in the Top 5:

Glasgow Guerrilla Gardening/Seedbom
Vegware
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Mull Slaughterhouse
Scottish White Fish Producers Association

Townhead – 22nd May 2010

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Hi again,

Townhead site: 11:30
Saturday, 22nd May

This Saturday, the forecast says Sunshine, so if you are coming along to our Townhead site, be ready for any weather type :)
Those who know the Townhead site, or just pass it now and again will have seen the lovely display of Tulips that are still  out and about. We think it is lovely as well but we are not sitting back just letting it look pretty. Summer is approaching and there is ongoing work to be done on the site.

If you want to bring a plant along we’re after Columbines, Oriental Poppies, Hostas, Foxgloves, Hollyhocks, Mexican Fleabane,
Sweet Woodruff, Ferns, Solomons Seal, Scabious or Campanula or see ‘What to Bring’ here.

If you want to bring seeds Dwarf Sunflowers, Poppies, Forget me nots, Candytuft, Nigella and Nasturtiums are all much needed and more than
welcome.

If you don’t want to bring anything but would like to help there are tons of weeds and litter killing the collective buzz and any help
in shifting them is always welcome.

See you on Saturday, any questions please ask,

Thanks,

Michael

(yes some of this message is a copy n paste, but it says what we need and will be doing)

Remember all them bulbs You planted?

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Late last year we had our 10,000 bulb challenge. Earlier in spring we had hundreds of daffodils, snowdrops and crocus flowering away. Right now, it is the turn of the Tulips to flower. It is a wonderful splash of colour. A big thank you again if you were involved in any way with the bulb planting.

Townhead, 8th May 2010

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Hello All,
If you were at our Saturday event you’ll know it was a piece of textbook Guerrilla Gardening. A great turnout, everyone brought plants,
seeds and water, got down to the job at hand and had a great time. So thanks to all who attended. If you weren’t there and want to know
what happened click here.

For those who didn’t attend, fret not. We’ll be at Townhead this Saturday 08/05/10 -a great turnout would be lovely, not to mention much needed.
Poor Mark and I have been holding the fort the last few weeks so it would be great to see new and old faces rally round. Our efforts over
winter have certainly paid of and there is no reason why summer can’t look as good as spring at Townhead provided we all pull together.

There is tons to do. Weeds need to be pulled, plants need dug up and moved, seeds need sown and palnts need planted.
Any help at all you can offer would be great.

Hope to see you all on Saturday.

Cheers

J.C
